Well, it all started with the Gingerbread story mama made up few days ago. Ever since then both little punks kept questioned mama with all sort of Gingerbread trivia. Sigh... mama knows it is kind of early for some Gingerbread cookies, but reckon it might be a good idea to solve the Question marks in Little Sprouts.
Original recipe here, mama make some changes of the ingredients according to own liking.
Ingredients
Gingerbread dough
- 1 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 2 eggs
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 3 teaspoons ground ginger
- 3 teaspoons ground nutmeg(optional)
- 1/2 cup butter(soften)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 and a half tbs milk
- food dye
Step 1: Mix both sugar, shortening and hot water in a large bowl.
Step 2: Stir in eggs, flour, baking soda, salt and spices, then knead into a soft dough. Cover and refridge 1 hour, or 3 hours at room temperature.
Step 3: Roll out dough to 1/4 inch, cut and bake 10 mins in preheated oven at 175C.
Our very 1st batch of Gingerbread cookies! The Little Sprouts couldn't stop nibbling even before mama apply the frosting.
Step 4: (High speed) Cream the butter until smooth for frosting. Add vanilla extract, sugar and milk at low speed. Distribute the frosting, add desire colours, mix well and start decorate the cookies when it's cool.
The dough itself yield about 4 batches of Gingerbread cookies, the residual dough mama attempted to build a cosy Little Sprouts' dream Gingerbread house!
For my beloved Little Sprouts!

Em, I reckon the gngerbread bear is Ah Xuan and the gingerbread girl is Juan Juan.
Has Ah Xuan officially become the sous-chef in your kitchen, since I hardly see Juan Juan around lately?
September 30, 2011 10:50 AM
LOL!! Those chubby lil fingers, I thought belongs to Ah Xuan :p My bad!
You've got 2 helpers (although you mentioned Ah Xuan is more than vandal) around the kitchen, I've got 2 destroyers who like to kacau me when I'm trying out new recipe.
